Productive vs. Non-Productive Emotions

The way people show up to one another (especially leaders and managers) make people feel certain ways. The way people feel - determines the extent to which people engage - which determines the results they produce.

Productive emotions create productive actions (creating high performing organizations) while unproductive emotions create unproductive actions (seen in low performing organizations).

The ECI measures 3 emotions at work:

  1. Emotions employees are currently feeling.
  2. How often they expect to feel these emotions at work to be effective.
  3. How often they would ideally like to feel these emotions to be effective.
